Outreach and Leadership

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”

- Margaret Mead

Voices for Science, 2025

  • Research Demonstrations

Labs presented visual demonstrations of their research to the general public and fellow academics.

  • Science Talks

Other individual researchers gave 15-minute talks on their science, designed for general audiences.

  • The Voices for Science was designed, implemented, and hosted by myself and two other leaders at the University of Colorado Boulder.

Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship, 2025

  • Networking

In the program’s second year, we focused on building networking opportunities by connecting fellows with faculty and peers across labs.

  • Mentorship

We also supported mentorship, helping to strengthen relationships between students and their research advisors.

  • Professional Development

In addition, we contributed to professional growth by organizing workshops and integrating student feedback into ongoing training opportunities.

Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship, 2024

As a member of the DEI Committee, I helped design and launch the inaugural Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program. Our goal was to expand access to research opportunities for undergraduates who had not yet worked in a lab. I contributed to shaping the program structure, which paired fellows with faculty mentors, provided stipends, and offered workshops to support both scientific skill-building and professional development.

Other Outreach and Leadership Experience

  • I served my fourth graduate year as the program student lead (Aug 2023-Aug 2024). In this position, I organized student events, managed student-faculty relationships and conflicts, provided students’ perspectives to faculty, and created and implemented a student resource website.

  • From August 2022 - August 2024, I served on the University of Colorado Boulder’s Student Government Finance Board. I served this position as a Government and Professional Student Government (GPSG) joint board member.

  • In July 2025, I designed and taught an introductory course for employees of the Center for Education, Engagement, and Evaluation at the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences.

  • In 2022, I was the lead organizer for the Cognitive Psychology interview weekend. This involved coordinating with graduate students and interviewees, scheduling events, and booking meals and activities during the interview process.

  • In the 2025 resume workshop, graduate student DEI leads conducted a live review of a student resume. Students gained experience editing and reviewing their resumes, and were able to ask graduate students any questions they desired.

  • First year graduate students in the psychology and neuroscience program were asked to participate in an introductory day. During this, I sat on a TA panel, where new students were able to ask more senior students any burning questions they had about working as a Teacher’s Assistant.

  • I was a panelist for STEM Routes at CU Boulder, a graduate-student led organization working to build an inclusive and supportive community for underrepresented students in STEM. During the panel, I shared insights on navigating research pathways—how to secure hands-on research opportunities, access mentorship, and develop a sense of belonging in STEM fields. I also engaged with students about what barriers they face and ways programs like STEM Routes can be improved to support their growth.
